Delta Community Thrown Into Mourning as President-General Dies in Military Custody

Oghoroko was detained alongside Prof Arthur Ekpekpo, Chief Belvis Adogbo, Dennis Okugbaye, Pa Anthony Ahwemuria, and Mrs Rita Akata between 18th and 20th August and had remained incarcerated since.

According to Vanguard, community leaders announced the news of Oghoroko’s death during an emergency meeting. They also disclosed that Pa Dennis Okugbaye, another detained leader, is fighting for his life in an undisclosed military facility.

In response to Oghoroko’s death, lead Counsel Olorogun Albert Akpomudje SAN expressed his deep concern, stating that he would consult with the family to determine the appropriate next steps.

Following the brutal demolition of the Okuama community after the killing of 17 soldiers, the community, represented by lawyers including Olorogun Albert Akpomudje (SAN), sought justice in the Federal High Court in Warri. They filed consolidated suits numbered FHC/WR/CS/41/2024, FHC/WR/CS/42/2024, and FHC/WR/CS/43/2024.

During the latest court session on 20th November 2024, the judge adjourned the bail application for the detained leaders until 9th December 2024 to hear the motion.
