This decision came after a presentation by FCT Minister Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, who had promised the youths in the territory that he would advocate for their request for such a secretariat to the president.
Speaking at a town hall meeting on Monday in Bwari to dissuade the youths of Abuja North from joining the planned nationwide strike set to begin on August 1, Wike announced that the new secretariat, equivalent to youth ministries in the states, will be headed by a secretary, a position equivalent to state commissioners.
He said;“I have good news for you. Following your complaints, I approached the president, and Mr President has graciously approved the creation of a Youth Secretariat for the FCT.”
Wike persuaded the youths of Bwari and AMAC, who gathered at the town hall meeting, to embrace dialogue instead of joining the protests.
The youths assured the Minister that they would not participate in the planned strike on August 1.

Earlier, the youth leaders expressed their preference for dialogue and stated that they would not participate in the planned nationwide protest.
