He recached the milestone after being named in Spain’s starting XI vs England in Euro 2024 Final on Sunday (Jul 14) in Berlin, Germany.

The record was previously held by Pele when he featured in 1958 FIFA World Cup final aged 17 years and 249 days.

Yamal is also the youngest ever goal scorer in the Euro championship after scoring his first goal aged at 16 years and 362 days in the semi-final against France.

He overtook the record from Swiss player Johan Vonlanthen, who had also scored against France in Euro 2004, aged 18 years 141 days.

Earlier in the tournament, Yamal also became the youngest player ever to play in the European Championship. He played his first game against Croatia in group stage match aged 16 years 338 days.

The previous youngest player in the Euro championship was Poland midfielder Kacper Kozłowski who played aged 17 years 246 days.

A photo of Yamal with Argentina superstar Lionel Messi went viral after his heroics against France in semis.

Yamal revealed that photos of him as a 6-month-old baby with Argentina star Lionel Messi were hidden intentionally.

Messi was seen bathing baby Yamal in the photo which was shot for a charity calendar in the photo.

“Obviously, in the moment the photos were taken I wasn’t conscious of what was going on at that age,” Yamal said on social media channel Jijantes on Friday (Jul 12).
