He acknowledged that the tournament will be highly competitive, with every team determined to excel, but remains confident in his team’s quality and strategic plans to reach the final. “It’s going to be a challenging tournament with 24 teams, great teams, and renowned coaches. Nigeria also boasts an exceptional coach”.
“For now, I am certain that we will field a great team and have an enjoyable experience,” Chelle stated.
The AFCON is not uncharted territory for Chelle, who successfully navigated the Malian Eagles to the last eight in the 2023 tournament, held in Cote d’Ivoire.
In the same competition, the Super Eagles, under coach Jose Peseiro’s guidance, reached the final, only to lose 2-1 to Cote d’Ivoire’s Elephants.
Nigerian fans will find anything less than the 2023 silver medal finish difficult to accept. Chelle must convince Nigerians of his ability to lead the Super Eagles to victory when they face Rwanda and Zimbabwe in the World Cup qualifiers in March.
