Stefan De Vrij brought them back into the game with a glancing header to make it 1-1 with 20 minutes to go.
Turkey defender, Mert Muldur scored an own goal six minutes later to give Netherlands a 2-1 lead and ultimately a place in the semi-final of the competition against England on Wednesday.
Netherlands coach, Ronald Koeman was delighted to guide his team to their first European Championship semi final in 20 years.
Koeman said, “We knew it was going to be tough so I’m really pleased that we made it through,
“It’s a win not only because we were probably the better side but also because we showed a fight and we did not give up.”
France will take on Spain in the first semi final clash on Tuesday and England will slug it out with The Netherlands on Wednesday to determine the finalists in Germany.
