1. Foods containing iodine
The body needs iodine to produce thyroid hormones. Iodine must be obtained through diet, though, as the body cannot generate it. Iodine is found in cheese, milk, seaweed, and whole eggs, among other foods.
A goiter, or enlargement of the thyroid gland, can result from a deficiency of iodine.
2. Foods containing selenium
A vitamin called selenium has antioxidant properties and aids in the synthesis of thyroid hormones. It exists naturally in thyroid tissue.
According to an analysis from 2017, keeping the body’s selenium levels stable helps avoid thyroid illness and improves general health.
Selenium-rich foods include: Nuts, shrimp, beef, eggs, chicken, oatmeal and brown rice.
3. Foods containing zinc
Another nutrient, zinc, may have particular advantages for those with hypothyroidism.
