The group made the demand in a statement signed by its Chairman, Dr. Festus Okere and the Secretary General, Sir Chris Ogara, where they acknowledged and appreciated the governors’ decision to meet the President for Kanu’s release.

The WIC said that South-East governors should understand that a prolonged inaction destroys peoples’ hope, hence, they should let their actions speak louder than their voice.

The statement read, “The World Igbo Congress (WIC) acknowledges the recent, significant meeting of the S.E Governors, with distinguished personalities, including our revered Agbogidi, HRM, Obi of Onitsha, who has stood up when it matters most.

“Among their unanimous decisions made public is their resolve to meet President Ahmed Tinubu for his unwavering release of our kinsman, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, which is justifiably overdue.

“The World Igbo Congress is itching to hear the outcome of their agreed meeting. Time is the soul of the world.

“A prolonged inaction destroys peoples’ hope. Let actions speak louder than voice.

“The WIC stands firmly with our governors in this overly concerned matter. We also recognize and salute all persons who have continued, on numerous documented occasions, to support the call for the release of Nnamdi Kanu.

“The WIC, again, urges President Tinubu to politically release Mazi Nnamdi Kanu. History remains a true account of the past.”

SaharaReporters had reported that the South-East Governors Forum agreed to meet with President Tinubu and engage with the Nigerian government to secure Kanu’s release.

The governors’ decision was contained in a communiqué issued after a six-hour meeting at the Enugu State Government House on July 2.

All five governors from the region – Peter Mbah (Enugu), Alex Otti (Abia), Prof Charles Soludo (Anambra), Francis Nwifuru (Ebonyi), and Senator Hope Uzodimma (Imo) – attended the meeting and signed the five-point communiqué.
