The representative admitted his actions fell short of the standards expected of a public official and expressed regret over the harm caused to the driver, the public, and his constituents.
“I recognize the trust placed in me as a public servant. My behaviour was unacceptable, and for that, I am deeply sorry,” he said.
He pledged full cooperation with the police investigation and applauded the swift response from authorities and his political party in condemning his behaviour.
The lawmaker confirmed he would seek professional counselling and engage in community service, focusing on respect and empathy initiatives.
Ikwechegh also emphasised the importance of working together to build a society grounded in dignity and respect for all.
He expressed appreciation for public understanding and encouraged others to join him in the journey toward healing and growth.
Following the incident, Ikwechegh was invited by the police for interrogation at its Maitama Divisional Headquarters.
The police slammed the lawmaker for bringing the name of the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun into disrepute by daring the driver to make calls to him after assaulting the driver.
