Founded by Nnamdi Azikiwe in 1955 and formally opened on 7 October 1960, the University of Nigeria has three campuses – Nsukka, Enugu, and Ituku-Ozalla all located in Enugu State.

The University of Nigeria was the first full-fledged indigenous and first autonomous university in Nigeria, modeled upon the American educational system. It is the first land-grant university in Africa and one of the five elite universities in the country.

Admission Requirements

Here are a few admission requirements for the University of Nigeria:

1. No person under the age of sixteen (16) years may be admitted to the University as a student.

2. The University of Nigeria, Nsukka requires all candidates applying for admission into any of its courses to possess five credit O’ level passes which must include a credit pass in the English Language and a Science subject in not more than two sittings.

3. The entry requirements for Direct Entry must include the UTME requirement for that particular course.

The University of Nigeria Admission procedures

All prospective candidates who made the University of Nigeria, Nsukka their first choice and are interested in gaining admission into the institution should note that they need to meet the minimum JAMB score for their respective courses.

The JAMB score accounts for about 60% of one’s UNN aggregate score. The higher your JAMB score, the higher your chances of securing admission.

The University of Nigeria JAMB cut-off point is usually between 180 – and 200. It means you need to have this score before applying for the UNN Post UTME exam.

Note that meeting the JAMB cut-off mark does not mean that you will get admitted immediately. Get a score above the cut-off mark of the department you wish to study.

Aside from that, you need to meet the school’s cut-off mark and the cut-off point of your chosen department or faculty to be fully admitted.
