On Saturday evening, we had all gone to bed. My husband went on a business trip, so he didn’t come back that night. I was alone with the kids and my house help. That Saturday night, we had all gone to bed, and she shares a room with my children. As I was sleeping, my last four-year-old came crying into my room. He said, “Auntie Joy sent me out.” I was not okay with that. I immediately went to the room. She said that he was disturbing them as they were trying to read. I said okay and took my last baby into my room, but my spirit was not comfortable.
After one hour, I felt the urge to go check on them. As I got there, Joy was on top of my son. I shouted, and she came down and was begging me. I called my husband that night immediately and told him that before he returns, I am sending this girl back because I wouldn’t want this to continue. My husband told me to allow her to come first, and he came the next day. My husband told me to forgive her. He asked, “What if she’s your daughter? Would you push her away?”
My husband asked, i was angry with my son. He said, “Mommy, I’m sorry. It was Aunty Joy that told me to lie down. If not, she would tell you that I insulted her.” I asked my son if it had happened before, and he said no, that it just happened that night. My husband told me to let him go. My son left, and I told my husband that this girl must go but my husband said she wouldn’t go.
After two days, it was my turn to pick Joy from school. I didn’t take her home. I took her to where we used to go for relaxation during the holidays because I needed some time to think. I asked her, “Why did you do that to my son? Since you came to my house, I’ve treated you like my own child. Why do you want to spoil my family?”
I was crying, and she started crying too. She calls me mommy and said, “Mommy, please, I have something to tell you. Since I came to live with you when I was eight, Daddy has always been inappropriate with me. When I turned 14, he started making love to me every night. There’s no night he doesn’t come to our room when we sleep, except when he travels. My body was shaking and wanting it. I tried to sleep but could not. Then I told Bobo to lie down. I am so broken. I don’t know how to go about this. I want my husband to face the law. If I confront him, he might deny it because he values his reputation a lot. Please, should I keep quiet or should I confront my husband? What should I do?
