According to Pauline, she started to realize that her parents didn’t like her after they bought a new school uniform for her elder sister while she was given the old and torn one to wear, even though they could afford to buy her a new one too.
She claims that after they completed their class eight, her parents chose to take her sister to secondary school, while her mother took her to work as a house girl in a friend’s house and would take all her salary.
After she met her husband while still working as a house girl, she decided to get married, thinking that her in-laws would show her the love she didn’t get from her parents. However, she was wrong.
Pauline says that her mother-in-law was very harsh to her, and her husband would side with his mother. Life became more difficult when she broke the news that she was pregnant.
One month before her due date, her husband ran away. She was forced to go back to her parents’ house, but her mother would tell her to go back to her husband, saying she was done with babysitting.
She tried to take poison three times and used a rope, but all attempts failed. That was when she decided to look for a man to infect her with HIV so she could die because, in those days, people believed that being HIV positive meant you would surely die. However, that didn’t happen. The man was honest with her that he was positive and wouldn’t want to ruin her life.
Life became very hard, and her husband came to look for her. They got back together, and she gave birth to her second child. But things became worse as her husband would brutally beat her every day, and she decided to call it quits.
She went to church for deliverance and is now on good terms with her mother and family. Although her husband married another woman, she is now a single mother of two.
