Wike’s remarks came during a 12-month review of the ministerial sector, where he underscored the urgent need for upgraded infrastructure in Abuja. He highlighted specific areas such as Maitama and Garki, noting that road rehabilitation in these districts has been completed, albeit with some inconvenience to residents.
The minister emphasized that his commitment to achieving is a positive step towards addressing the city’s challenges. He insisted on immediate action, demanding that every street in Maitama and Garki be rehabilitated. He also acknowledged that the completed roadworks had caused some inconvenience to residents but framed it as a necessary sacrifice for long-term improvement.
He said, “When people say Abuja is a City, I ask myself what makes it a City, No good Roads, No light. I said no I called the FCDA and said come what’s your work here, look at the whole street, you can’t have a good road to say it’s a City. I said No, I said I don’t know what you’re doing. I want to see the paper on my table in the next one week. Every street in Maitama, Garki have to be rehabilitated. Today, you can attest to the fact that most of the Roads have been rehabilitated though there was some inconvenience but that’s the part of your own sacrifice”
