The singer’s failure to show up comes after his earlier remarks about the people of Ibadan and Oyo, which ignited widespread outrage.
In late 2024, Portable stirred controversy when he made derogatory comments about the people of Ibadan, claiming they did not own buildings with Plaster of Paris (PoP) decorations.
The comments were made during a feud with his ex-lover, Queen Dami, where he showcased a PoP-finished apartment he rented for her, contrasting it with the lack of such decor in Ibadan and Oyo State. The video went viral, prompting strong reactions from residents who saw it as an insult.
Despite apologizing for his remarks, Portable’s appearance at the New Year concert was canceled due to security concerns.
Jarule Entertainment, the event’s organizers, explained that after consulting with the local police and ensuring adequate security, they received reports that some members of the audience were actively seeking out Portable. Fearing for his safety, the decision was made to prevent him from performing at the event.
This decision has sparked a flood of reactions online. Social media users expressed their disapproval, with one commenter,
