Years back, when I got out of high school, I decided not to further my studies because I wasn’t a good student. I decided to work very hard and support my parents in taking care of my six siblings. At that time, the youngest was five years old, and it seemed like my parents weren’t willing to stop having children. My dad said he wanted to have 12 children since his late dad had 12 children too. He wanted to do that to honor him, and I was so angry when I heard him say that. Even with seven children, he couldn’t take good care of us. If God had not intervened, the fifth born could have died from a serious illness at that time. My dad had no work to do either. All he did was wake up and stake a lotto.

I remember one time he made 10,000 cedis from staking lotto, and we were all happy. Later on, his wicked friends deceived him into using the 10,000 to stake again and win 100,000 cedis. He did and lost. That night, I cried and felt so disappointed because there was nothing good to eat at home. We all slept in a single room.

Miss Bee, at that age, dressing up in the room while my dad was there made me so uncomfortable. My mom, on the other hand, moved from one home to another to wash people’s clothes, and the money wasn’t good.

I’d always prayed to God to give me a good man in my life who would change my family’s story after all I’d been through with men. Most of the men I dated lied to me, saying they loved me and would take good care of me until I finished university, but that dream never came true. I decided to do the laundry work my mom did. I would visit one home after another, knocking on doors to see if I could get clothes to wash. Sometimes, the men in the homes I visited would want to sleep with me to give me extra money.
