“I’m very happy. I think they (Chelsea) are watching what I do at Palmeiras. Today my mind is 100% in Palmeiras. The rest is a consequence.”
It is believed that Mauricio Pochettino’s side have tabled an opening bid for the Brazilian Under 17 international over the past week.
Trusted journalist Fabrizio Romano claims that an offer in the region of €57m (£49m) was tabled, which included €32m (£27.5m) upfront and another €25m (£21.5m) in performance-related add-ons.
Palmeiras have rejected the proposal but Chelsea are expected to return with a second bid in the near future.
Other clubs have shown interest in Estevao
Arsenal, Manchester City, Bayern Munich, Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain are among the teams who have been linked with a move for the winger.
However, it is believed that Chelsea are in pole position to secure Estevao’s signature after being the first to agree personal terms with the player.
If the player signs, he won’t join Chelsea immediately
Due to rules pertaining to under-18 players in Brazil, Estevao wouldn’t be able to secure his switch to Stamford Bridge straight away if the Blues do reach an agreement with Palmeiras.
The forward would have to wait until he turns 18 in April next year before being allowed to join the London club. That means fans won’t be able to see him in action until the start of the 2025/26 season at the very earliest.
Considering his age, that may not be a bad thing as another year of experience playing for Palmeiras could aid his chances of making an impact immediately after he arrives in England.
