Speaking during his first presidential media chat on Monday, Tinubu expressed sorrow over the loss of lives and stressed the need for better organisation during such events.

“It is very sad that people are not well organised. We just have to be more disciplined in our society. My condolences to those who lost a family member,” Tinubu said, addressing the incidents that have claimed multiple lives.

Reflecting on his own charitable efforts, Tinubu highlighted the importance of proper planning to avoid chaos. “It is good to give. I have been giving out foodstuffs, commodities, including envelopes, for the last 25 years. I have never experienced this kind of incident because we are organised and disciplined. If you know you don’t have enough to give, don’t attempt to publicise it,” he advised.

The stampedes, which occurred during the distribution of food and other items, have drawn widespread criticism. On Saturday, many lost their lives and several others were injured in Anambra and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), prompting the Inspector General of Police to urge charity organisers to involve security agencies and adhere to strict safety protocols.

Earlier in the week, over 30 children tragically died during a stampede at a children’s funfair in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, further intensifying calls for better crowd management and discipline in public events.

The President’s remarks underline the critical need for improved planning and safety measures to prevent future tragedies during humanitarian activities.
