The Croatian international has been a class act throughout the campaign for the Sky Blues and one would argue that he belongs in the Premier League Team of the Season.
Alongside Destiny Udogie and Emerson Palmieri, it can be argued that the former RB Leipzig defender has been the best left-back in the league.
Gvardiol is perhaps one of the few signings made by City during the Guardiola era who has been a resounding success in his debut season.
In a video with Shoot For Love on YouTube where he was ‘blind ranking’ players, Joao Cancelo ranked Josko Gvardiol in tenth place and Thiago Silva in first place.
Josko Gvardiol is better than Thiago Silva now
In our view, Joao Cancelo might be judging Thiago Silva by assessing his career from the very start instead of judging the current version at which he is playing in comparison to Josko Gvardiol.
The Brazilian, 39 is finally starting to show his age in what has been quite a difficult campaign for him.
The Champions League winner has been part of a backline which has shipped as many as 61 goals in 36 Premier League games.
On the other hand, Gvardiol has been part of a City defence which has only conceded 33 goals in the division while also chipping in with four league goals this season.
Considering how much Thiago Silva has achieved in his career, perhaps many might side with him over Josko Gvardiol as Joao Cancelo did.
But based on this season, Gvardiol has a clear edge over the former PSG captain.
