The Service of Song which was held at the National Ecumenical Centre, Abuja, was attended by former President, Goodluck Jonathan, former Senate Presidents, Anyim Pius Anyim, and Adolphus Wabara, former Abia State Governor, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, former Imo Governors, Achike Udenwa and Emeka Ihedioha, former Ebonyi State Governor, Dave Umahi, Imo Deputy Governor, Chinyere Ekomaru, traditional rulers, and several businessmen and politicians. Also in attendance at the Night of Tributes were Minister of Women Affairs, Uju Ohanenye, Okwesilieze Nwodo, Senator Ekwunife, Senator Ned Nwoko, former Minister of Labour, Emeka Nwogu, and several other officials of Ohanaeze Ndigbo.
Several superlatives were used by different individuals to describe the personality of late Iwuanyanwu who, they said, played different roles in sports, governance, media, aviation, and several sectors of the economy.
In his remarks, former President Jonathan described the late Iwuanyanwu as a nationalist whose wish was to witness a Nigeria where every individual could achieve his or potential irrespective of differences.
Jonathan recalled how the wise counsel from Iwuanyanwu helped him to pilot the affairs of the government when he was President. “When the President was sick (Yar’adua), and there was confusion in the country, he (Iwuanyanwu) always prayed for me.
“As a politician, he contributed very well to the development of the society. We want to appreciate God for bringing him to us. He served God meritoriously. He condoled the immediate family, Imo State and entire Nigeria for the loss, and assured them that Iwuanyanwu’s life and legacy will continued to be remembered for good.
Speaking on behalf of the family, Mrs. Nwadiutor Iheakanwa, said, though the family has lost a great patriarch, they have found strength in the legacy he left behind, and will continue from where he stopped.
Anglican Primate, Archbishop Henry Ndukuba, who was represented by the Anglican Archbishop of Niger Delta, Most Rev. Blessing Eyinda, in his sermon appreciated God for the impactful life that late Chief Iwuanyanwu lived.
He reminded the gathering that death is inevitable, hence everyone should live a righteous and impactful life worthy of remembrance.
The series of Service of Song continues next week in Enugu (October 26) and Owerri (October 29). There will also be commendation service on Thursday, October 31, 2024, while the burial will hold on Friday, November 1, 2024, at Attah Ikeduru, Imo State.
