Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, yesterday alleged that the judge, who gave an order stopping the reinstatement of Sanusi Lamido as the 16th Emir of Kano, gave the order from the United States of America. Promising to report Justice Mohammed Liman of a Federal High Court to the National Judicial Council (NJC) and the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, he said, “the person that issued the court order was in America, but he is ordering us to stop what we are doing.” Justice Liman had granted the order in an application filed by the Sarkin Dawaki Babba of the Kano Emirate, Aminu Babba Dan Agundi, to stop the Kano State Government from enforcing the Kano State Emirate Council Repeal Law which dethroned all five Emirs in the state......READ THE FULL STORY>>.....READ THE FULL STORY>>

However, Yusuf, while reacting to the court order after issuing the reinstatement letter to Lamido at Africa House, Kano State Government House, said; this issue of abuse I must present it before the Governor’s Forum so that we can tackle it accordingly. We are agents of following due process, that’s why we did what we did openly before everybody. Those that are meant to maintain that rule of law remains must follow that also.” Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, has said while presenting letter of Reinstatement to the 16th Returned Emir of Kano Muhammadu Sanusi ii, that, “we return Sanusi out of conviction that he was victimized in 2019”.

He said, “We also returned him as the rightful Emir of Kano to continue the good jobs he is doing for the good of Kano.” Governor Yusuf, while speaking in a way on the issues of the Law that retuned Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II, that when a Bill is signed into Law, it has become a Law and nobody can change that. He said that it was clearly believed that Muhammadu Sanusi II was victimized by former governor Umar Ganduje, for no tangible reasons. “Your reappointment was guided by collective belief and the judgement of your competency, dedication and zeal for the development of Kano State and its environs.”

He added that, “As you ascend the throne of the Emirate of Kano, you should be guided in your conducts by the teachings of Islam, which you are known for, reunite the family of Ibrahim Dabo and also do more to ensure that Islamic Sects are brought together as one worshipers of Allah”. This is coming as a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Chief Mike Ahamba, yesterday, expressed sadness over the continued spate of the disobedience to court orders in the country.

Speaking in an exclusive chat with Saturday Telegraph while reacting to the unfolding drama in Kano State as it concerns the reinstatement of the former governor of Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, the SAN specifically called on lawyers to challenge the disobedience of the order of the Federal High Court which had earlier ruled against Sanusi’s reinstatement. According to Chief Ahamba (SAN), “The court has a procedure for fighting such a situation where its orders are being disobeyed. “Since we run a culture of disobeying court orders in this country, I expect that the law- yers involved would do what is required to challenge whoever is disobeying court orders.”

It would be recalled that Governor Yusuf had presented a letter of appointment to the reinstated Emir. The governor, while stating that Sanusi was victimised in 2019, added that the Emirate Council Law 2019 by the immediate past governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, balkanised the old Kano Emirate. The governor called on the reinstated Emir to use his leadership to unite the emirate and the state as a whole. Sanusi’s reinstatement came despite the Federal High Court, in Kano, restraining the governor and the state government from implementing the new Emirate Law under which Sanusi was reinstated. The law, which was passed on Thursday by the state House of Assembly and assented to immediately by Governor Yusuf, dissolved the four emirates carved out of the Kano emirate in 2019 and removed the emirs.
