Governor Yusuf who spoke to journalists and election observers shortly after casting his vote commended the electorates for coming out en masse to exercise their franchise.
He expressed optimism that his party, the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) will record victory across the 44 Local Government Areas of the state.
He expressed hope that those elected would serve the people’s interests and that his administration would ensure good governance.
Governor Yusuf commended the chairman and staff of the Kano State Independent Electoral Commission (KANSIEC) for ensuring the conduct of free and fair elections in the state.
According to him, “when it comes to elections, there shouldn’t be any impunity and we should ensure that people are allowed to freely exercise their franchise.
”I am appealing to the judiciary to continue to be neutral when it comes to elections, it is not good for our judiciary to be partisan.
“Even though the Kano State Government is the only Government which came into office under the platform of NNPP, we shouldn’t be intimidated, people of Kano are peace-loving, but if they are pushed to the wall, they can react.
” We’ve seen what happened in Rivers, so we took proactive measures to ensure that a similar scenario does not happen in Kano.
“I want to appeal to the opposition to always accept defeat as we have the upper hand in terms of voter support. ”
Our Correspondent reports that even though the police and other security agencies did not participate in terms of providing security, Kano residents and the electorates conducted themselves in a peaceful manner as there was no incident of breach of the peace across the state.

Our Correspondent who monitored the election reports that in some polling units, elections were concluded as early as noon.
KANSIEC made election materials available in good time as many voters trooped out as early as 7 a.m., voted and returned home.
Even though there was a restriction of movement, people were seen in clusters around their homes discussing and chatting in hush tunes.
There were also routine patrols of police vehicles and other security agencies on the empty streets, even though they did not attempt to near the polling units.
Hisbah Guards, vigilantes groups, neighbourhood security outfits and hunters were also sighted guiding government installations in case of any eventuality.
