The initiative, which will officially begin on December 2nd, 2024, is designed to benefit not only students but also out-of-school graduates, aspiring entrepreneurs, and vocational artisans. It is part of the government’s ongoing efforts to equip young people with the essential skills needed to thrive in the modern workforce.
The Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Tolani Sule, outlined the program’s ambitious long-term goal of training over 5,000 young people in Lagos by 2030, providing them with vital digital skills to enhance their employability and broaden their career opportunities. “The Eko Digital Skills Initiative 2024 is designed to equip over 5,000 youths in the state with the necessary digital skills by 2030, making them more employable and expanding their career potential,” Sule stated.
The initiative will focus on providing practical training in digital skills, as well as fostering entrepreneurship, critical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving abilities. Sule emphasized the importance of addressing the gap between traditional academic learning and the rapidly changing demands of the modern workplace.
Zubairu also stressed the need for continuous skills development to help job seekers remain competitive.
The initiative underscores the urgent need for programs that bridge the skills gap and enhance employment prospects for the youth.
