Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation, Sola Giwa, said that the Ministry of Transportation officials had held extensive discussions with key stakeholders, including Primacle, Dangote, Lagos Free Trade Zone, Lekki Ports, the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), and the Ibeju-Lekki Local Council Development Area (LCDA) ahead of the system’s final unveiling.
This collaborative engagement, he said, had been pivotal in aligning all parties for the seamless adoption and operationalisation of the e-call-up system, as well as symbolising a collective commitment to this transformative initiative.
Besides, Giwa said that the government would oversee the enforcement of traffic regulations and effective implementation of the e-call-up system, and ensure smooth coordination of entry and exit for both wet and dry cargo trucks, adding that the initiative aims to enhance operational efficiency and alleviate congestion within the Free Trade Zone.
He said that the initiative marks a significant step towards sustainable development for the region.
Meanwhile, the state government, in partnership with Callup Technology Services Limited, has said that the delay in implementing the electronic call-up system at the Lekki-Epe Corridor, designed to streamline truck movement, is due to efforts to establish a robust system that can manage complexities and avoid the bottlenecks previously experienced at Apapa.
Giwa said that lessons learnt from the Apapa/Tincan corridor were being applied to ensure a more efficient rollout.
Additionally, the Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, Seun Osiyemi, noted that the call-up system is being fine-tuned to provide a seamless and efficient solution.
He said that the initiative aimed to prevent congestion and enhance safety by avoiding the bottlenecks previously encountered at Apapa.
Osiyemi said that training for key stakeholders is underway, with members of the National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) and Petroleum Tanker Drivers receiving hands-on experience with the system’s software.
Managing Director of Callup Technology Services Limited, Timi Koleolu, stated that while the system is ready for deployment, collaboration remains crucial.
He said that they would involve all stakeholders in the process to ensure the system is robust enough to manage the complexities of the Lekki-Epe Corridor.
Besides, he expressed optimism that the new system would significantly improve traffic management and safety in the Ibeju-Lekki Local Council.
