Ratcliffe and transfer guru Jason Wilcox are keen to lower the age of the squad in the off-season after taking control of footballing operations at Old Trafford.

Recent reports have suggested that Man United will be open to offers for most of their first-team squad this summer.

But it is believed the Red Devils will first look to part with Raphael Varane, Casemiro, Jonny Evans and Christian Eriksen.

Both Varane and Evans are out of contract next month, while Casemiro and Eriksen will need to be bought out of their deals at Old Trafford.

Man United chiefs are keen to build around the youthful core of Alejandro Garnacho, Rasmus Hojlund and Kobbie Mainoo – who have been the shining lights in an otherwise dismal 2023-24 campaign.

Varane, 31, has again struggled with injuries this term, making just 24 starts across all competitions.

Casemiro, 32, has been a more durable option but has been ridiculed by fans and pundits alike for his performances, with Sky Sports’ Jamie Carragher claiming the midfielder should pursue a move to the MLS or Saudi Pro League this summer.

Evans was drafted in as emergency cover last summer (2023) and is not expected to see his contract renewed, while Eriksen is now only a backup option for Man United after joining for free in 2022.
