Mnisi, aged 42, was found guilty of a string of horrific crimes that terrorized the community of Nkomazi between 2010 and 2015. His reign of terror targeted vulnerable young women, leaving a trail of trauma and anguish in its wake.

The court proceedings revealed a pattern of depravity, with Mnisi preying upon unsuspecting victims in various locations and circumstances. On November 1, 2010, under the cover of darkness, Mnisi forcibly sleeping with a young girl returning from church, subjecting her to a harrowing ordeal in an unfinished building near Tonga.

In subsequent years, Mnisi continued his reign of terror, employing intimidation and violence to subdue his victims. On March 30, 2011, a 20-year-old woman was attacked while returning home from a nearby Spaza Shop, threatened with a firearm, and brutally assaulted in nearby bushes.

The horror continued as Mnisi targeted even younger victims, perpetrating acts of unspeakable violence against them. On August 24, 2012, a girl playing outside her home fell victim to Mnisi’s brutality, while on December 8, 2012, another young girl was assaulted in her own home as she slept beside her four-year-old brother.

Despite the relentless efforts of law enforcement, Mnisi continued to evade justice until June 29, 2022, when he was apprehended in Germiston, Gauteng Province, after assaulting another victim who sought his assistance.

Following his arrest, a diligent investigation by the Family Violence, Child Protection, and Sexual Offenses (FCS) Unit in Mpumalanga uncovered evidence linking Mnisi to multiple rapes in the Nkomazi area. In January 2023, he was charged and brought before the Germiston Magistrate’s Court, where he pleaded guilty to numerous charges.

On May 7, 2024, Mnisi was sentenced to life imprisonment for each count of rape, with certain sentences to run concurrently. The culmination of the case represents a significant victory in the fight against gender-based violence, with General Manamela commending the tireless efforts of law enforcement, prosecutors, and the judiciary in securing justice for the victims.

“We are hopeful that the sentence will serve as a deterrent to perpetrators of heinous crimes against vulnerable groups,” remarked General Manamela, underscoring the commitment of the SAPS to hold offenders accountable and protect the rights of all citizens.
