Meet Aisha Maikudi, the 41-year-old Professor Appointed UniAbuja VC

The outgoing Vice Chancellor, Prof. Abdul-Rasheed Na’Allah, praised Maikudi’s appointment, noting that it would take effect after his tenure ends on June 30, 2024, pending the Governing Council’s ratification.

In her acceptance speech, Aisha Maikudi expressed profound gratitude to the Senate members for their trust and support. “I want to extend my deepest respect and appreciation to you all for the strong support and unwavering commitment that you have accorded me,” she said.

Maikudi’s journey to this pinnacle of academic leadership began at Queens College, Lagos, where she obtained her West African Senior School Certificate.

She then pursued her legal studies at the University of Reading, earning an LLB in 2004, followed by an LLM from the London School of Economics & Political Science in 2005. In 2015, she achieved a PhD in International Law from the University of Abuja.

Joining the University of Abuja on September 4, 2008, as Lecturer II, Maikudi’s rise through the academic ranks has been nothing short of inspiring.

By 2022, she had become a Professor, having already broken barriers as the first female Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Law in 2018 and the pioneer Director of the University of Abuja International Centre in 2019.

Maikudi’s academic journey is complemented by her active participation in national and international conferences across the globe, including the UK, US, South Africa, Germany, Italy, and Egypt. Her research on United Nations Law is widely recognized, and she has made significant contributions to the field through her extensive writings.

A member of several esteemed professional bodies, including the Nigerian Bar Association, Nigerian Law Teachers Association, and International Federation of Women Lawyers, Maikudi’s commitment to law and education is evident.
