After her father died, she had to look for a job to support her mum in raising her siblings. She went to Nakuru and worked for one year. One fateful morning, as she went to harvest food for the cows, two men dressed in face masks attacked her, tied her hands, and closed her mouth with a sock. One man raped her while the other one penetrated her anally. Luckily, a middle-aged woman passed by and took her to the hospital. She was treated, and the police were involved, but no one was arrested. When she was discharged from the hospital, her mother took her home and took good care of her.
She stayed there for 3 years and relocated to Naivasha. She started hawking clothes there and got into a relationship which lasted for two years. They decided to move in together but didn’t involve their parents. She conceived their first child after two years of marriage. When she was only two months pregnant, her husband started cheating on her. He could spend days without coming back home. When she asked him, he became violent and beat her up. One day, he brought a woman to their bed, told Monicah to sleep on the couch while he and the woman slept on her bed. The following morning, she asked her husband why he was treating her that way. He told her she was not the type of woman he wanted and that she should leave his house immediately. Monicah was hesitant to move out since she was pregnant and had not informed her mother about their marriage. The man stopped providing food for her. Her friends and neighbors were the ones who took care of her because the doctor had given her bed rest.
One day, she went for prenatal checkups. When she came back and showered, she started feeling itchy in her private area. She went back to the hospital, and the doctor discovered that her underpants had been applied with hot pepper. She went back home and asked her husband why he did that, but he denied it.
Her due date came, her friends took her to the hospital, and she gave birth through a c-section. Her husband was informed, but he didn’t go to the hospital. When she was discharged, she found that her husband had removed all his belongings from the house and left. It has been four months now, and he has never returned.
