The EFCC received a petition from the victim, leading to an investigation that culminated in Gilbert’s prosecution and conviction. Justice H.H Kereng of the Gombe State High Court handed down the sentence.
In a separate case, Saleh Haruna has been sentenced to five years in prison for forgery and attempted fraud. Haruna, along with Mohammed Mustapha Sallah, allegedly defrauded a victim of N950,000 by posing as a land seller. Justice Muazu Abubakar of the Bauchi State High Court presided over Haruna’s sentencing.
The EFCC has applauded these convictions as significant victories in its ongoing battle against fraud and corruption in Nigeria. Mohammed Mustapha Sallah, Haruna’s alleged accomplice, has also been arraigned on charges of conspiracy, forgery, and intent to defraud. His case is scheduled for hearing on July 8, 2024.
