This setback is coming on the heels of two recent collapses in the space of one week. On Tuesday, the grid failed twice within 24 hours, marking the seventh collapse in 2024.
The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has not provided an official statement regarding the cause of the collapse at press time.
However, data from the Nigerian System Operator’s dashboard (niggrid.org) shows that all distribution companies, except Ibadan DisCo and Ikeja DisCo, had a load allocation of 0.00MW at 9:34 am on Saturday.
On Friday, Nigeria recorded a peak power generation of 4,807.20MW at a 50-hertz frequency, according to the country’s power data portal.
