Nigeria has declared the Nigerian Counter-terrorism Centre as a regional Centre to enable all Ecowas Member States to benefit from the capacity building and other related opportunities available at the Centre in the fight against terrorism. The action according to President Bola Tinubu is due to the enormous financial resources required to combat terrorism and security challenges in the Sub Region.
The Ordinary Session of the Authority of Ecowas Heads of State and Government had opened earlier with concerns on the challenges of terrorism and insecurity in the region.
The President of the ECOWAS Commission also says the region is confronted with the risk of disintegration as the African Union says it is not in support of the 3 countries withdrawing from the regional body.
President Bola Tinubu emphasised on the importance of funds in financing the fight against terrorism.
The meeting later went into a closed-door session after which a communique is expected to be issued on decisions taken.
