The Nigerian Federal Government has announced plans to establish a Joint Military Command Centre, code-named ‘Operation Fansan Yamma,’ in the North-West region as part of its strategic efforts to address escalating insecurity. The visit, part of the Defence Minister’s working tour of the North-West Zone, focused on finalizing preparations for the official launch of the joint military theatre command, which has been set up by the Defence Headquarters. The centre is expected to bolster security operations and improve coordination among military and security agencies in the fight against criminal activities that have long plagued the region.
Speaking on the importance of the new initiative, Badaru stressed that establishing a Command and Control Centre in the North-West is a vital move toward restoring peace and stability. “This is a crucial step in addressing the menace of banditry, terrorism, kidnapping, and other related crimes that have ravaged the region for years,” he said.
Badaru also praised the efforts of Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani for providing sustained support to security agencies in the ongoing fight against insecurity. He reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to eradicating banditry and other criminal activities across Nigeria.
Additionally, the Defence Minister highlighted the government’s collaborative efforts with neighboring countries, particularly the Niger Republic, to tackle cross-border terrorism, arms trafficking, and other security concerns. He acknowledged the growing security challenges around Sokoto and its borders, emphasizing that the government is taking proactive measures to overcome them.
“The President has charged us to be innovative and find lasting solutions to this security problem. We are working closely with the military, security agencies, and neighboring countries to tackle terrorism, banditry, and arms trafficking,” Badaru explained. He assured Nigerians that the government is committed to ending insecurity and restoring peace, adding, “By God’s grace, we will succeed.”
The new military initiative comes as the North-West region continues to face severe security threats, with banditry, kidnappings, and terrorism disrupting lives and displacing thousands. Operation Fansan Yamma is expected to integrate various security forces, enhancing rapid response capabilities and ensuring a coordinated approach to countering criminal activities.
