In a video that has since surfaced online, members of the group, led by FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, visited Governor Makinde to commiserate with him over the passing of his elder brother.
Alongside Wike and Ortom were former Abia State Governor Okezie Ikpeazu and Enugu State Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi.
While the video continues to generate mixed reactions, discussions surrounding the G5 meeting have sparked debates on the intention behind their gathering. However, Ortom’s unique shoe choice has also caught the attention of social media users.
One Instagram user, @balo_ng, commented with laughing emojis, saying, “Shoe be like crocodile mouth,” while another user, @akinkunmi_state_captain, asked, “Which type of shoe is this one?”
The G5, a group of prominent members of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), had previously refused to support the party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, arguing that the presidency should rotate from the North to the South.
According to them, electing Atiku after President Muhammadu Buhari’s eight-year tenure would result in two consecutive Northern presidents, which they believed would undermine inclusivity and the principle of rotational presidency.
Meanwhile, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde recently lost his elder brother, Sunday Makinde.
In a statement on Friday, January 24, in Ibadan, the state capital, the governor’s Special Adviser on Media, Sulaimon Olanrewaju, confirmed the passing of the deceased at the age of 65.
The Bada Olubadan of Ibadanland and Head of the Aigbofa Family of Oja’ba, Ibadan, Olumuyiwa Makinde, announced the death in a message.
