Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Mohammed, recently voiced his support for Jonathan’s candidacy, despite having his own presidential ambitions. At an event organized by the Save Africa Initiative in Abuja, Mohammed stated that he would step aside if Jonathan agreed to run, citing the former president’s experience and capability to revitalize Nigeria’s economy.

The PDP’s Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Ibrahim Abdullahi, echoed this sentiment, aligning the party with the Bauchi governor’s stance. Abdullahi highlighted Jonathan’s track record, including his respect for democratic processes and his ability to stabilize the economy during his previous tenure. He dismissed concerns about the potential reaction from former PDP presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar, emphasizing that no single individual should dictate the party’s direction.

In contrast, the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) dismissed the idea of Jonathan running in 2027 as premature and futile. APC’s National Director of Publicity, Bala Ibrahim, mocked the PDP’s efforts, asserting that Jonathan would face another defeat if he ran against Tinubu. Ibrahim argued that the APC’s victory in 2015 was due to strong party leadership, not solely former President Muhammadu Buhari’s popularity, and expressed confidence that the APC would prevail again.
