The singer, who is still at large, said he never assaulted anyone, insisting that anyone trying to spin lies against him will face God’s wrath.
In a video he posted on his social media pages on Saturday evening, he said, “I didn’t fight anybody. They’re just trying to set me up. I am from a poor family, yet I’ve helped a lot of people. Artistes, bricklayers, tailors, and many other people live with me,” Portable declared in response to the accusations of assault against government officials in Ogun State.
It was gathered that the OGPDPA agents had been conducting a routine audit of the area when they began serving notices to structures that lacked proper permits.
At the time, the officers were working on the opposite side of the road from Portable’s bar when the singer made a video, still available on his Instagram page, where he mocked the town planners, calling himself the ‘town planner.’
In the clip, he rallied people in his bar to refer to him as such, and they chanted in unison. He further boasted that no one could regulate a town he resided in, causing the agents to leave the area due to his verbal intimidation.
However, the situation escalated when the officials later approached Portable’s bar to serve an official notice of illegal construction. According to reports, the agents met his father, who was present at the premises. They explained their mission and handed him the notice, stating that the family had several days to challenge the action if they possessed valid documents proving compliance.
Portable’s father informed the officials that the singer was not around but assured them that he would show him the notice upon his return.
Moments later, as the agents were pasting the notices, Portable and his associates arrived on motorcycles. Witnesses alleged that the singer and his men attacked the officials, attempting to stop them from carrying out their duties.
The town planning officers reportedly attempted to flee for safety, but Portable allegedly ordered commercial motorcyclists to block their escape and physically assault them. It was also reported that he personally slapped and physically harassed the officers.
The agents managed to retreat to their vehicle, but Portable, still allegedly intent on pursuing them, mounted a motorcycle and chased after them, eventually blocking their route. The officials sought refuge at a nearby petrol station, where bystanders shielded them from further harm.
Realising the gravity of the situation, the officials contacted their office, which in turn alerted the police. Officers promptly arrived at the scene to rescue the town planning agents from the escalating violence.
According to eyewitnesses, the attack was severe, with the officials being pelted with stones even as they sought safety within the petrol station. The intervention of law enforcement officers was crucial in preventing further harm and de-escalating the situation.
Despite the allegations and evidence circulating online, including the viral video in which he initially taunted the officials; Portable insisted he is a victim of a setup.
