Libya were in the hunt for their first win of the AFCON qualifiers, and were hoping to halt their four-match losing streak against Nigeria. Despite being the overwhelming underdogs, Milutin Sredojevic’s men held their own for over 85 minutes.

However, it was business as usual for the  Super Eagles as Fisayo Dele-Bashiru’s 86th-minute strike was enough to secure all the spoils for the hosts.

After Nigeria’s hard-fought victory, Super Eagles fans made their thoughts known on X (formerly Twitter).

Austin Eguavoen’s men have retained their place at the top of Group D. They have earned seven points from a possible nine and are closely followed by Benin Republic with six points.

On the other hand, Libya find themselves at the bottom of the table with only one point from three AFCON qualifying games.

The Mediterranean Knights will have another opportunity to avenge Friday’s loss when they host Nigeria on Tuesday, 15 October. Kickoff time is 20:00 WAT.
