The CSOs hailed the achievement as a major step toward reducing fuel prices and ensuring economic relief for millions of Nigerians.
Speaking at a press conference in Abuja, the Chairman of the Forum, Comrade Friday Maduka, described the resumption of operations at the refinery as a landmark accomplishment.
He noted that the initiative reflects the unwavering commitment of President Tinubu and Mele Kyari to addressing Nigeria’s longstanding challenges in the oil and gas sector.
“This is a monumental achievement that underscores the transformative leadership of Mele Kyari and the progressive reforms championed by President Tinubu.
“The revival of the Port Harcourt Refinery will undoubtedly pave the way for a reduction in pump prices and strengthen Nigeria’s energy security,” Maduka stated.
The resumption of operations at the refinery is expected to significantly reduce Nigeria’s dependence on imported refined petroleum products.
By increasing local refining capacity, the initiative aims to lower the cost of production and, ultimately, the price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) at the pump.
According to the CSOs, the refinery’s revival will not only translate to cheaper fuel for Nigerians but also enhance economic stability and reduce the pressure on foreign exchange reserves caused by fuel imports.
“Mele Kyari’s leadership has been pivotal in this success. His commitment to transparency and operational efficiency has set a new standard in the oil and gas sector,” the Forum noted.
The CSOs further acknowledged the painful but necessary reforms in the oil and gas industry introduced by President Tinubu.
They described the measures as vital steps toward creating a more efficient and sustainable energy sector.
While celebrating the progress made so far, the CSOs called on Nigerians to support the ongoing reforms in the oil sector.
They urged citizens to rally behind the federal government’s efforts to transform the sector into a cornerstone of Nigeria’s economic growth.
