Kennedy-Ohanenye, whose tenure at the ministry was characterised by controversies stemming from her perceived overzealousness, was one of the five ministers discharged by the President on Wednesday, October 23, 2024.
Other sacked ministers include Lola Ade-John (Tourism), Jamila Bio Ibrahim (Youth Development), Tahir Mamman (Education), and Abdullahi Muhammad Gwarzo (Housing and Urban Development).
Tinubu appointed seven new Ministers to fill the vacuum created by the reshuffling and to also fill the two spots left vacant by the suspension of Betta Edu and the resignation of Simon Lalong, who crossed to the Senate.
Uju Kennedy expresses appreciation
Reacting to the development, Uju Kennedy penned a heartfelt message, expressing her gratitude for the opportunity to serve Nigeria in the federal cabinet.
She also especially thanked President Tinubu and his wife, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, for their support, advice, and confidence in her.
The ousted Minister recalled how the First Lady was instrumental to her success due to her guidance and counselling.
“I write to express my sincere gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the opportunity to serve as a Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. It has been an honour and a privilege to contribute to the development of our Nation.
I would also like to extend my heartfelt thanks to Senator Oluremi Tinubu, the First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, for her invaluable guidance and support during my tenure as Minister of Women Affairs. Her kindness and encouragement have been instrumental to my success,” Uju Kennedy wrote in a statement on her X on Thursday, October 24, 2024.
She also thanked the people of Nigeria for the support she received during her tenure, adding that she derived a lot of inspiration from the confidence expressed by Nigerians.
She pledged to continue to contribute her utmost best to the growth and development of the country.
“To the people of Nigeria, I am deeply grateful for your unwavering support. Your trust and confidence in me have been a constant source of inspiration.
