Speaking on the high cost of food in Nigeria, Bafarawa lamented that residents of Bafarawa district in Sokoto State now require permission from bandits to access their farms. He also claimed that bandits determine which crops can and cannot be cultivated in his community.
“I used to own a farm of over 10,000 hectares in Birni Gwari, Kaduna State, which I have been cultivating since 1979,” Bafarawa said. “But I can no longer access it due to the presence of bandits.”
The former governor attributed the high cost of food items to the displacement of farmers by insecurity. He recalled warning the federal government about the impending food crisis but said his advice went unheeded.
Bafarawa urged the federal, state, and local governments to collaborate effectively to address insecurity, particularly in northern Nigeria. He emphasized the need for immediate action to prevent a catastrophic situation
