In a statement released by SEYAF’s Coordinator, Comrade Paschal Nnaemeka Ugwu, the group highlighted Fubara’s impressive track record, citing his notable advancements in infrastructure, healthcare, and education as significant milestones of his administration.
Expressing concerns over the rising political tensions in Rivers State, SEYAF urged the Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, to avoid actions that could lead to instability in the state. The group criticized Wike’s past leadership and stressed the importance of maintaining peace and unity under Governor Fubara’s administration.
Additionally, SEYAF called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to intervene in the ongoing conflict between Fubara and Wike, emphasizing the need for the federal government’s involvement to safeguard the progress and stability that have been achieved in the state. The group remains confident in Fubara’s capacity to lead Rivers State towards sustainable growth.
Their statement read: “We, the South East Youths Alliance for Fubara, express deep concern over the current political unrest in Rivers State stemming from the dispute between Governor Similayi Fubara and the Minister of FCT, Nyesom Wike. This unfortunate conflict risks undoing the significant progress Governor Fubara has diligently worked to achieve and could throw the state into unnecessary turmoil. We fully stand by Governor Fubara’s administration, which continues to focus on development despite recent obstacles.”
SEYAF also praised the governor’s administration for its swift completion of major infrastructure projects. Among these are the planned reconstruction of the Ngo internal roads and the extension of the road to Oyorokoto Town, a project aimed at alleviating transportation difficulties and boosting economic activities in the region.
Governor Fubara’s contributions to healthcare were also highlighted, notably his revitalization of emergency ambulance services and the upgrade of 33 primary healthcare centers, ensuring improved access to medical care for rural communities.
The governor’s administration has demonstrated strong financial management by raising the state’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) from ₦12 billion to ₦28 billion, a testament to the prudent use of resources and commitment to economic growth.
Among his notable achievements is the ongoing completion of 34 previously abandoned projects across 13 local government areas, underscoring his dedication to continuity and the welfare of the people. Furthermore, his ₦4 billion investment into the Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSME) sector, benefiting 3,000 youths, reflects his focus on reducing unemployment and promoting entrepreneurship.
The group also commended Governor Fubara’s backing of the Obiakpor Local Government Chairman, Hon. Chijioke Ihunwo, acknowledging Ihunwo’s effectiveness in driving development at the grassroots level.
However, SEYAF expressed concern over the escalating tensions between Governor Fubara and Minister Wike. The group urged both leaders to put aside personal differences and prioritize the state’s welfare, while appealing to President Tinubu for timely mediation.
“We reaffirm our support for Governor Similayi Fubara’s development-focused leadership. Rivers State has a promising future under his guidance, and with unity and determination, we believe the state will overcome this crisis and continue to prosper,” the statement concluded.
