The controversial artist was detained upon returning to Nigeria for a show in Owerri.
A source who spoke to SaharaReporters confirmed that Darlington was transferred to the Police Force Intelligence Department (FID) on Wednesday. Deputy Inspector-General (DIG) Dasuki Galadanchi, who now oversees the case, allegedly took over the files from the previous police unit.
The source stated, “Speed Darlington is being moved to Abuja. DIG Dasuki Galadanchi is personally handling the case, citing dissatisfaction with the previous bail terms.”
Another insider added that the DIG assumed control of the case files from the department that initially detained Darlington in Abuja.
Stan Alieke, Darlington’s lawyer, explained that the re-arrest stemmed from accusations of bail jumping. He clarified that his client was granted administrative bail in October after being detained for five days, following a petition filed by fellow artist Burna Boy.
Alieke noted that Darlington missed a scheduled court appearance due to a medical emergency requiring treatment abroad. He emphasized that the singer had planned to return to Abuja after his Owerri performance and had no intention of evading the legal process.
