In the face of the current high heat, it is important to drink enough water on a permanent basis. In addition to water, it is necessary to eat water-rich foods, including fruit and vegetables, and to avoid heavy dishes, in sauce or fat, which tend to stay on the stomach, while the body is already weakened by the heat.

A dietician, a dietician, recommends not waiting to be thirsty to drink, because the feeling of thirst is already a sign of dehydration. And as far as quantity is concerned, it advises drinking at least 2 liters of water per day and not exceeding 3 litres, while giving preference to fresh water or at room temperature but not ice-cold water. Indeed, she explains, the body must warm the ice-cold water so as not to disrupt its function and therefore provides energy that heats the whole body. It is therefore necessary to alternate the cold drinks (which come out of the refrigerator) with drinks at room temperature.

“Drink small amounts of water regularly throughout the day and every day. If you are afraid to forget, take a large bottle of water with you everywhere. Leave it obvious to think about drinking: on the desk, in your handbag, in the empty pocket of the car. Increase your consumption if you are exercising; plan your sessions preferably in the morning or in the evening, in the shade,” adds Yasmine zerbo.

The dietician warns about the consumption of tea and coffee, as they have a diuretic effect and therefore can dehydrate. Alcoholic beverages should also be avoided as alcohol dehydrates. Instead, Yasmine zerbo prescribes to keep them cool for the evening, when temperatures drop and consume them in moderation.
It is important, says Yasmine zerbo, to avoid over-salted food when the thermometer rises. Admittedly, they promote thirst and therefore hydration, but the accumulated salt retains water and therefore impairs the hydration of the body. Also, sausages, smoked fish, crisps, aperitif cakes and dried fruit are to be removed from your menus in hot weather.

In this sensitive period, the dietician invites special attention for infants and the elderly. Even if they do not feel thirsty, they must be given to drinking frequently. “If your child does not like water, infuse fruit in it and exceptionally, allow him or her one or two glasses of fruit juice a day. Otherwise, offer him funny gourdes or glasses decorated with the image of his favorite heroes. It doesn’t matter, as long as it may cause him to drink,” she advises for the very young.
