There’s no proof Trump has syphilis, but the possibility that he or anyone could be infected is not as far-fetched as it might sound. Syphilis was once nearly eliminated in the US — gone the way of malaria and the black plague — but in the last decade rates have exploded in the US, Europe, and Canada. Experts are calling the re-emergence an epidemic, approaching 200,000 new cases a year in the US and causing 220 stillbirths and infant deaths in the most recent year analyzed.
