An Oredo Government Council revenue collector says he was harassed and arrested by members of Professional Drivers on Wheel while carrying out his official duty.
Mr. Ernest Omoregie stated that he resumed work like every other staff member of the Oredo Government Council and was sent out on revenue collection.
According to him, while carrying out his duty, some men identified as Professional Drivers on the Wheel swooped on him, started manhandling him, and dragged him to the police state command.
Mr Ernest Omoregie’s counterpart in the Stakeholders Collection Office, Mr Percy Idubor, said the local government officials are now afraid to go out for fear of being attacked by the members of Drivers on Wheel.
Reacting to the incident, the National President of Professional Drivers on Wheel, Comrade Shabba Adams, said they acted based on the ban placed on the collection of levies by the Edo State Government.
Professional Drivers on Wheel stated that they will continue to resist any collection of revenue from them until the state government authorizes it.
