“For us in the legislature, the Supreme Court has spoken, and we have no option but to abide by the ruling,” Akpabio stated. “I call on all states of the federation to respect what the Supreme Court has done, and we will return to the legislature to ensure the full implementation by dotting the i’s and crossing the t’s.”
Akpabio highlighted the authority of the Supreme Court’s rulings, comparing them to the irrevocable words of a king. “The words of the Supreme Court are like the words of the king; they cannot go down to the ground without implementation.”
He described the ruling as a significant moment for democracy, offering congratulations to President Bola Tinubu for the initiative. “This is a great day for democracy, and I congratulate the president for this initiative. All Nigerians now understand that local government administration is an arm of government meant for the grassroots, and their money should be for the grassroots.”
Akpabio noted the potential for local governments to undertake projects independently as a result of the ruling. “Local governments can now undertake projects on their own. It’s a great day for democracy and the beginning of great things to come.”
The Supreme Court’s decision is expected to enhance local governance and ensure better management of resources at the grassroots level.
