However, she emphasized that if her own daughter were to return, she would assert her parental authority and take responsibility for her care.
Yakubu vehemently opposed the idea of her daughter being forcibly converted to Islam, especially by the terrorists who subjected her to horrific experiences such as molestation, rape, and forced marriage.
She expressed profound concern for her daughter’s well-being and emphasized her unwillingness to accept such a scenario without her consent.
She said that: “For me, I don’t have an issue with that. I don’t have anything to say about that because it’s their parents’ choice. But if my baby is back, I would know how to take care of her.
If for example, my baby is back now, and they said the government will take care of her for me and will now convert her to be a Muslim. They would only do that if I agreed. They can’t force me into it. When I got married, I didn’t take their permission.
When I gave birth to my baby, I didn’t take their permission. I cannot give my child to a terrorist who molested her, raped her, married her forcefully, and she would now follow their religion again.
If that happens there, she’s not close to me, and I don’t know how it happened. I don’t know if she’s alive or she’s dead. So I can’t say anything about that.”
