Real Madrid went through to the Champions League final once again on Wednesday night, outlasting Bayern Munich at the Santiago Bernabeu. Undoubtedly Vinicius Junior and Joselu Mato were the headline acts, but Toni Kroos played a leading role in their progress too. Real Madrid hope he will do so again next season......See Full Story>>.....See Full Story>>
The German midfielder remains coy on his future, and last week told the press that he had not made a decision on his future, with his contract up at the end of the season. Kroos has openly declared that he wants to leave the game at the top, and has also said he would either retire or continue at Real Madrid.
All of the reporting thus far has been that he will agree to a new one-year extension, with some claiming it could be announced in the next week, following their progress to the Champions League final.
However Marca have pointed out a worrying occurrence for Madridistas – after the Santiago Bernabeu emptied out, and the celebrations in the dressing room, Kroos returned to the empty pitch, sat on the grass and drank in the stadium. He was then joined by his wife and children.
It could well be him simply appreciating the moment, but it is unusual behaviour from Kroos, and it would not be unlike him to consider calling it a day after potentially winning La Liga and the Champions League. The 34-year-old will also lead Germany into the Euros this summer, in a last hurrah with die Mannschaft after coming out of retirement.
