The Guardian reports that results from 3, 815 out of the 3,933 polling units where elections were held in the state have been successfully transmitted as of  8: 35 pm.

The main candidates in the election include Lucky Aiyedatiwa representing the All Progressives Congress, Agboola Ajayi of the Peoples Democratic Party, and Abbas Mimiko from the Zenith Labour Party.

Earlier, the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Ondo State, Oluwatoyin Babalola, told newsmen that the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) recorded a 97 per cent success rate in the ongoing election.

She disclosed this while monitoring the election at some centres in Akure, the Ondo State capital.

She was accompanied by the National Commissioner of INEC, Kenneth Onyeakwu, and the Commissioner of Police in Ondo State, Oladipo Abayomi.

According to Babalola, the election has been running smoothly, adding that polls were opened very early with impressive voter turnout.

She also expressed confidence that the election will be concluded without issues.

Meanwhile, the Centre for Democracy and Development (CDD) reports that there was widespread vote-buying by agents of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the Ondo State governorship election.
