Sowore was arrested by operatives of the Department of State Services while returning from the US.

His flight left the Washington Dulles International Airport at 6.14 EDT and arrived in Lagos at around 9.43 WAT THE WHISTLER gathered.

He joined in organising the August nationwide protests tagged #Endbadgovernance before leaving for the US.

While in the US he continued to urge Nigerians to come out in protest against the government headed by President Bola Tinubu.

Confirming his arrest, Human Rights activist, Deji Adeyanju, in a message he sent to THE WHISTLER on Sunday morning said, “Sowore has been arrested by jobless and lawless Nigerian government for calling for End to Bad Governance protest.”

Adeyanju also said Dr. Abubakar Alkali, Senior Lecturer, Department of Petroleum and Gas Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Baze University was “abducted by DSS three weeks ago and taken to Sokoto State for supporting the End Bad Governance protest.

“He has been in custody since then.”

The DSS has not confirmed those arrests as efforts to reach the service proved unsuccessful.

Sowore who’s the convener of the Take It Back Movement, over the weekend condemned being placed on watchlist and an instruction that he be arrested and detained whenever he arrives in Nigeria.

Sharing his experience, the activist in a post on X/Twitter said, “Detained by the Nigerian Immigration, my International passport confiscated.

“I had just arrived in Nigeria from the USA to the MMIA in Lagos; upon reaching Nigerian Immigration, my passport was seized, and they told me they had orders to detain me.”

Sowore further said, “This is not unexpected because i have always known that It is part of the broader clampdown by the fascist @officialAbat regime on dissent and their fear of the upcoming #FearlessINOctober revolt.

“In case this becomes another prolonged and protracted detention, I urge our citizens to ensure they ALL stop tyranny by all means acceptable and necessary, by engaging in the planned series of direct actions slated for October 1st and beyond. EndBadGovernaceInNigerianow #RevolutionNow”
