The agency stated that the production and sale of B- GAG Healthy Syrup did not pass through the necessary health examinations in the laboratory, posing significant risks to consumers’ health due to unknown safety, quality, and efficacy. In a statement on its website, NAFDAC revealed that the syrup has no registration number and contains misleading labeling information.
The product, produced by Babban Gida Agalawa General Enterprises, was identified with batch number 0070 and was manufactured at No. 883/884 Western Bypass Ring Road, Kumbosto Local Government, Kano State, Nigeria. NAFDAC identified B- GAG Healthy Syrup during surveillance operations in Maiduguri, Borno State, and Keffi, Nasarawa State. The agency advised consumers and caregivers to exercise caution and vigilance to avoid the use of the product. NAFDAC emphasized that all medical products should be obtained from authorized and licensed suppliers, and the authenticity and physical condition of the products should be carefully checked before use. Consumers who have already used B- GAG Healthy Syrup are urged to report any adverse or side effects to their nearest NAFDAC office.
The agency announced that it would notify the World Health Organization (WHO) Global Surveillance and Monitoring System (GSMS) about the illegal production and marketing of the syrup. NAFDAC’ s warning underscores the importance of ensuring that all medicinal products undergo rigorous testing and approval processes to protect public health. The agency’ s proactive surveillance activities are crucial in identifying and mitigating risks posed by unapproved and potentially harmful products in the market. As of the time of this report, attempts to contact the makers of B- GAG Healthy Syrup were unsuccessful, as the product does not include any phone or email contact information.
This lack of contact information further raises concerns about the legitimacy and safety of the product. Consumers are reminded to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious or unapproved products to NAFDAC to help safeguard public health. The agency continues to monitor and regulate the market to prevent the distribution and sale of unsafe medicinal products.
