Just Adetoun, a human rights activist has expressed concerns over the attitudes of Nigerian politicians intimidating the youths during their protests. Recall that Wike demanded that the protesters pay rent, security fee and utility fees before they would be allowed to use the venue for their protest.
Reacting to the minister’s remark, Adetoun slammed him saying he does not deserve to be a Minister.
She also addressed Folashade Tinubu-Ojo, the daughter of the President for her statement to the market men and women, warning their children not to protest, and stating that her father should be allowed to serve for about three years before facing criticism.
Adetoun who was displeased with Iyaloja’s comment, criticized her, stating that Lagos State does not belong to her or anybody.
“By virtue of pedigree, Wike, you are not supposed to be a minister. Everybody knows how you came to be a minister. You deliver, they promise you post. Now they’ve given you the post, maintain your lane, do you work Wike. You have no right to tell citizens of the Federal Republic of Nigeria that there is no space. Wike, if you have money to buy the whole building in Abuja, you don’t have a penny to buy the land in Abuja where everybody has rights.”
“Iyaloja, daughter of Tinubu, who are you sending the message to? Lagos is not for you, Lagos is for anybody, everybody for anything. If you call yourself a leader, most importantly in a public space. Please, if you cannot talk keep quiet. When you want to talk, you address people with humility, connection, sympathy, understanding their present situation. You think what they call frustration is easy? You want to break the youth for what they want to do?
“Everyone who came out for EndSARS, respect to you all. You think telling them about EndSARS will subdue them? You are trying to remind them of their failure and you want to agitate them to come out and try again.
“What did these children inherit in the past 25 years? They were born into a bad economy APC, PDP, whatever party. They grew up in a bad economy. They do not understand anything. They don’t even know where they are coming from. They know where they are right now. They don’t even know where this country is taking them. They are taking the battle of breaking the chain of poverty into their own hands and the ones who are still hopeful for their country are coming out to speak and all you people are doing is threatening them, making them understand they don’t have a sense of belonging or ownership.
“Politicians who have no brain or level of humility, where do you expect them to meet you. All of you politicians, you lock down your page. The ones opened are busy posting pictures, no negotiations no conversation, nothing. Is that what governance is all about? You want to intimidate the people.”
