A South African man who Repeatedly Slept With A Grandmother In Her Home For 2 Days Has Been Arrested And Detained

In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Dikweteng village in Dientjie, Mpumalanga, a 25-year-old man has been arrested for a horrific two-day assault on an elderly woman. The suspect, already out on bail for a similar offense, now faces multiple charges, including burglary, assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm, and sexual assault.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The incident, which began on the night of Wednesday, July 3, 2024, saw the suspect allegedly break into the victim’s home. Over the next two days, he is accused of subjecting the elderly woman to brutal assault and repeated sexual violence. It was only on Friday, July 5, that the victim managed to call for help, causing the suspect to flee before community members could intervene.

Law enforcement quickly launched an investigation, resulting in the suspect’s arrest in Ohristad on Sunday, July 7, 2024, just two days after the attack was reported. The victim is currently receiving medical treatment for injuries sustained during the ordeal.

Alarmingly, this is not the suspect’s first offense of this nature. He had previously been arrested in March 2024 for a similar attack on an 83-year-old woman in Didimala village, Dientjie. In that case, he allegedly raped and stabbed the victim, who tragically succumbed to her injuries in May after being hospitalized. The suspect had been released on R1000 bail for that offense.

Major General Zeph Mkhwanazi, the Acting Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service (SAPS) in Mpumalanga, expressed his concern over the incident, stating:

“The suspect’s actions are really disturbing, and we will make sure that the incident is thoroughly investigated in order for justice to be served for the elderly citizens.”

This case has ignited serious discussions about the safety of vulnerable members of society, particularly the elderly, and has raised questions about the effectiveness of the bail system for violent offenders. As the investigation continues, authorities are committed to a thorough examination of the evidence to ensure justice for the victims and their families.

The suspect is scheduled to appear before the Dientjie Periodical Court on Tuesday, July 9, 2024. The community is urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the police promptly. Support services are being provided for the victims and their families as the legal process unfolds.
